Scott obtained an art degree from Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia. After graduation, he was employed by Hallmark Cards to create flower settings and wildlife greeting cards. He worked as a graphic artist for the St. Petersburg, Times, where he illustrated the outdoors pages. While there, Scott created an illustrated weekly column, “The Nature of Florida,” featuring a different Florida species each week. He was the art director of a newspaper in Colorado Springs and a graphic artist for the Orlando Sentinel, and is a staff artist for the Daytona Beach News Journal.
Scott loves wildlife and the outdoors. As an avid falconer, his appreciation for nature and wildlife is reflected in his work. His medium for his painting is acrylic on board and for his sculptures, wire/mixed medium.
Scott’s wire sculptures have evolved with experiments using various types of wire and materials to cover and form the animal or bird. His current sculptures involve three gauges of wire with plaster cloth used to cover the piece. The concept of plaster cloth as “skin” makes it exciting to work with the negative space on the bird or animal. His wildlife and landscape acrylic paintings are created from real life experiences, with sketches and photographs from the field.
Scott’s work has been recognized throughout the United States. He designed the Florida Bass automobile license tag, and won a contest to design a game bird stamp for the State of Indiana. He also has designed prints for the Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited. Two of Scott’s paintings were recently included in the “Top 100” and “Top 50” for 2008 in two contests sponsored by the Paint America Association. “Paint the Parks” is the Nation’s leading competition and exhibition designed to illustrate the beauty and significance of America’s National Parks.
Scott was raised in St. Petersburg, Florida and currently lives in Ormond Beach, Florida. Sculptures, original acrylic paintings, and signed, numbered giclee prints on paper or canvas are available.
